Prilično neozbiljna špekulacija. Niti oni imaju para koliki je grčki dug niti zanima i jedne i druge, niti se otplatom dugova kupuje "zemlja".

gargamel4, mojne tako, zamisli kako bi ojadili sve mobilne operatere da se prihvati njihov iMessage standard i potpuno obesmisli koncept SMS-a kad je jasno iMessage po svemu daleko superiorniji, i sto je najvaznije, DALEKO jeftiniji!
Ja bih to bas voleo.
A sledeca je stvar obesmiliti ovu voice komunikaciju koju sada imamo, i da sve ide preko neta. I onda svi imamo iste ili slicne uredjaje, a koji su svi na neki nacin povezani u jedinstvenu mrezu - moj san o globalnoj komunikaciji :D

Smart Li-Ion Batteries the Size of a Credit Card

Accutronics has launched two new lithium-ion batteries in its Intellion series of credit card sized batteries. Designed to provide a high level of functionality and safety the CC2300 and CC3800 batteries allow integration of smart lithium ion battery into handheld portable products with minimal effort and cost.

The batteries feature an active electronic protection system that prevents them from being overcharged, over discharged or short circuited and to ensure that the battery will remain safe if externally abused. In addition, they have an impedance tracking fuel gauge that constantly tracks battery status, providing information such as remaining battery capacity, state of charge, run time to empty, battery voltage and temperature.

The new batteries fulfill the requirements of IEC 62133 and UN 38.3 to ensure compliance with international safety and transportation standards and they are excepted from Dangerous Goods regulations. Comprehensive technical back-up and accessories are available to help OEM designers integrate the batteries into their systems.

Turn Your Mobile Phone into a Microscope

Finland’s VTT Technical Research Centre has developed an optical accessory that transforms the camera of a normal mobile phone into a microimaging system that can be used to examine objects and structures in microscopic detail and transmit high-resolution images as MMS messages. Featuring next-generation lens technology and a resolution of 10 microns, the accessory could benefit the printing industry, consumers, security applications and health care professionals. The first industrial applications and consumer models will be available in early 2012.

The accessory contains a lens with LEDs to illuminate the object being examined. It fits in front of the regular camera lens using magnetic attachment. Unlike conventional tubular microscopes, the accessory easily fits in the user’s pocket. The microscope accessory has a moulded plastic macro lens that gives the camera a 2x3-mm field of view. Several LEDs are recessed in the perimeter of the lens to allow objects to be illuminated from different angles, which could potentially be used in combination with a software app to produce 3D topographic images.

The Cheapest Tablet in the World

Aakash, the cheapest tablet in the world was probably one of the most spectacular subjects that came up at the seventh edition of the India Semiconductor Association (ISA) Vision Summit that took place last week in Bangalore. The Aakash tablet computer developed and manufactured in India is an Android 2.2 tablet with an estimated public retail price of around $50. Universities however may buy it for only $35 so they can give it for free to their students. According to the Minister for HRD, Communications & IT, Shri Kapil Sibal, the low price of the tablet is possible because the Indian government subsidizes part of its costs. The first version of the tablet was released last October; an improved version 2 is expected next April.

High Resolution 3D Camera for Smartphones

Multimedia processor manufacturer Movidius has joined forces with Toshiba to develop a complete 3D system solution for smartphones. It mates Movidius' MA1178 processor with Toshiba’s 8-megapixel extended depth of field (EDoF) cameras to yield a 3D camera module that delivers 3D imagery ideally suited to top-end smartphones.

EDoF cameras have distinct advantages over traditional autofocus for 3D synchronisation. They do not have moving parts and can be significantly thinner than auto-focus units. By using an asymmetrical lens it can focus objects at different distances resulting in clear images under good light conditions.

The MA1178 Dual ISP video processor chip seamlessly integrates into the handset's existing platforms with auto-calibration and configuration functionality and, together with an EDoF camera, enables perfect focus matching of stereoscopic images, improving 3D picture quality. The system can be implemented in a symmetric or asymmetric configuration using either two 8-megapixel EDoF cameras or a combination of 8-megapixel and 3-megapixel cameras.

Android apps support face and fingerprint biometrics

Biotech specialist Neurotechnology has launched embedded versions of their products for use in fingerprint and face biometric systems, including multi-biometric systems using face and fingerprints in combination. The embedded versions are designed for use in low-power, compact and/or mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, handheld computers and similar devices. They include the same algorithms as their PC-based counterparts.

VeriFinger Embedded and VeriLook Embedded can process fingerprint or face images in less than one second in a device with a 1 GHz or better processor. The first release of MegaMatcher Embedded product includes both fingerprint and face biometric algorithms; versions incorporating iris and voice biometrics are expected to be available in the near future.

VeriFinger Embedded supports a range of popular fingerprint scanners and readers. VeriLook Embedded can use the video cameras integrated into Android devices. MegaMatcher Embedded provides the same level of support for input devices as the single biometric versions. All three embedded products are designed for the Java development environment and support the Android operating system, version 2.2 or above. Support for ARM Linux and WinCE operating systems will be available in future versions.

Touchscreens go tactile

Researchers at the École Polytechnique Fédérale du Lausanne (EPFL) have developed a technique for giving touchscreens tactile surfaces, so that users have the impression of touching a raised surface. Among the many potential applications, it could be used to make touchscreens more accessible for people with visual impairments.

The novel technique, developed by EPFL’s Integrated Actuators Laboratory in Neuchâtel, is targeted at smartphones, tablets, computers, and vending machines.

Conventional touch screens rely on visual interaction with the user and lack tactile features. By adding a tactile dimension to touchscreens, the novel technique increases their usability and enhances the user’s experience. It could be used to add emphasis to onscreen text or make video games even more entertaining by adding an additional sensory dimension. For the visually impaired, it could truly open up access to smartphones and other electronic devices.

The tactile effect is obtained by using a piezoelectric material that vibrates when an AC voltage is applied to it. Although the amplitude of these mechanical vibrations is very small (around 1 micron), they create an air cushion between the user’s fingertip and the screen, which gives the impression of a raised surface.

Highest efficiency ever for flexible OLEDs

Materials science and engineering researchers at the University of Toronto have developed the world's most efficient organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) on plastic. This paves the way for a flexible form factor as well as a less costly alternative to conventional OLED manufacturing, which is currently based on rigid glass substrates.

OLEDs enable high-contrast, low-energy displays that are rapidly becoming the dominant technology for advanced electronic screens. They are already used in some mobile phones and small-scale applications, and increasingly in general lighting applications. Current state-of-the-art OLEDs are produced using glass doped with heavy metals to achieve high efficiency and brightness, which makes them expensive to manufacture, heavy, rigid and fragile. Using plastic can substantially reduce production costs while providing designers with a more durable and flexible material for their products.

The research demonstrated the first high-efficiency OLED on plastic. The performance of their device is comparable with that of the best glass-based OLEDs, while providing the benefits offered by using plastic. The researchers were able to replicate the high refractive index property previously limited to glass with heavy-metal doping by using a 50–100 nm layer of tantalum(V) oxide (Ta2O5), an advanced optical thin-film coating material. In combination with a flexible plastic substrate, this coating technology allowed the team to build the highest-efficiency OLED device ever reported with a glass-free design.

The results of the research are reported online in the latest issue of Nature Photonics.

Fluoride increases storage capacity of rechargeable batteries

KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) researchers have developed a new concept for rechargeable batteries. Based on a fluoride shuttle -- the transfer of fluoride anions between the electrodes – it promises to enhance the storage capacity reached by lithium-ion batteries by several factors. Operational safety is also increased, as it can be done without lithium. The fluoride-ion battery is presented for the first time in the “Journal of Materials Chemistry” by Dr. Maximilian Fichtner and Dr. Munnangi Anji Reddy.

Lithium-ion batteries are applied widely, but their storage capacity is limited. In the future, battery systems of enhanced energy density will be needed for mobile applications in particular. Such batteries can store more energy at reduced weight. For this reason, KIT researchers are also conducting research into alternative systems. A completely new concept for secondary batteries based on metal fluorides was developed at the KIT Institute of Nanotechnology (INT).

Metal fluorides may be applied as conversion materials in lithium-ion batteries. They also allow for lithium-free batteries with a fluoride-containing electrolyte, a metal anode, and metal fluoride cathode, which reach a much better storage capacity and possess improved safety properties. Instead of the lithium cation, the fluoride anion takes over charge transfer. At the cathode and anode, a metal fluoride is formed or reduced. “As several electrons per metal atom can be transferred, this concept allows to reach extraordinarily high energy densities – up to ten times as high as those of conventional lithium-ion batteries,” explains Dr. Maximilian Fichtner.

The KIT researchers are now working on the further development of material design and battery architecture in order to improve the initial capacity and cyclic stability of the fluoride-ion battery. Another challenge lies in the further development of the electrolyte: The solid electrolyte applied so far is suited for applications at elevated temperatures only. It is therefore aimed at finding a liquid electrolyte that is suited for use at room temperature.

Ultrasonic beam = wireless charging

The day when we don't have to plug in our consumer electronics is getting closer, claim a a new startup firm named uBeam that has developed a safe way of beaming power to your devices.

Rather than using inductive charging, which has a very short effective range and usually requires that the charger and device be in close proximity to each other, uBeam uses an ultrasonic transducer to convert power from your wall socket into inaudible sound energy. On the device side, there's a battery adapter that converts the sound energy back into power to charge your batteries. The ultrasonic frequency used is well above the range that can be heard by humans or dogs.

uBeam wants to develop wireless charging units for home and commercial use, with the idea that businesses like Starbucks could install a transducer on the ceiling of each coffee shop to provide power to gadget-happy customers who have a uBeam battery adapter.

The product idea was developed by two recent University of Pennsylvania graduates, Meredith Perry and Nora Dweck, and they demoed a proof of concept device made from off-the-shelf parts for Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher at the recent D9 conference. The video linked below has more information about the technology and the plans uBeam has for making the future even more wireless.

The uBeam charge station will emit ultrasound at frequencies and amplitudes well below OSHA regulations. The uBeam system is said to meet all federal guidelines, and all components comply with CPSC regulations. Ubeam founders Meredith and Kate anticipate their current model to beam energy to up to 7 m (21 feet).

Photovoltaic polarizers enable devices to be powered by sunlight

New technology developed by researchers at the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science could finally help solve the problem of smartphones or laptops running down when there is no access to an electrical outlet.

UCLA engineers have created a novel concept for harvesting and recycling energy for electronic devices — one that involves equipping these devices' LCD screens with built-in photovoltaic polarizers, allowing them to convert ambient light, sunlight and their own backlight into electricity.

LCDs, or liquid crystal displays, are used in many of today's electronic devices, including smartphones, TV screens, computer monitors, laptops and tablet computers. They work by using two polarized sheets that let only a certain amount of a device's backlight pass through. Tiny liquid crystal molecules are sandwiched between the two polarizers, and these crystals can be switched by tiny transistors to act as light valves. Manipulating each light valve, or pixel, lets a certain amount of the backlight escape; millions of pixels are combined to create images on LCDs.

The UCLA Engineering team created a new type of energy-harvesting polarizer for LCDs called a polarizing organic photovoltaic, which can potentially boost the function of an LCD by working simultaneously as a polarizer, a photovoltaic device and an ambient light or sunlight photovoltaic panel.

Their research findings are currently available in the online edition of the journal Advanced Materials and will be published in a forthcoming print issue of the journal.

From the point of view of energy use, current LCD polarizers are inefficient, the researchers said. A device's backlight can consume 80 to 90 percent of the device's power. But as much as 75 percent of the light generated is lost through the polarizers. A polarizing organic photovoltaic LCD could recover much of that unused energy.

The research was supported by Intel through a gift to UCLA, and by the Office of Naval Research.

Jos da stave i projektor za tastaturu sa druge strane i primene neka od ovih resenja za bateriju i laptopovi i tableti mogu u istoriju.. Za sada moze 3h da izdrzi projekciju, sto i nije tako lose.. Korisno za poslovne prezentacije, seminare itd.. Dobra zezalica, bolja nego '3D efekat' na ekranima... :)

Хм, ко зна шта се ту муља, можда у некој другој земљи отворе фабрику. Колика ли је била просечна плата тим радницима?
Смрди ми на сад већ устаљену технику бега компанија из својих земаља са високим и средњим стандародом. На пример, Фијат је у Торину морао да плаћа радницима по 800 евра месечно, па је побегао у Пољску, где им је плаћао по 500 евра, и најзад у Србију, где им даје по 250 евра. :disgust:
